The Zoo Crew gives kids ages 13-17 a wonderful experience to volunteer at the Dallas Zoo. You must complete a  training program and there is a fee.

Plano Animal Shelter

While you must be over 18 years to volunteer at the animal shelter, you can host a fundraiser or donation drive benefiting the Plano Animal Shelter. For example, take the profits of a  lemonade or bake sale and give them to the shelter.  You can also donate toys for dogs and cats, treats, litter,  and dog food.

There are many creative ways you can help the animals listed on their webite such as making craft toys or bedding for the Plano Animal Shelter. Specific project ideas are available online:

Community Cleanups Plano

Operation Kindness

You can volunteer to make a difference in the life of homeless animals. They have "Family Days" for kids 7 years and older to help with kennel support and adoption greeting. They also have opportunities for kids 13-18 years old through the Junior Volunteer program. You can tour  the animal shelter and participate in hands-on activities.
